George M. Swartz, of Tyrone, died Sunday, May 19, 2013, at Altoona Regional Health Systems following a brief illness. Born Oct. 25, 1918, in Altoona, he was a son of the late David L. Swartz and Margaret McMeen. On June 5, 1948, in Bellwood, he married Gisela E. Konig. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1940-1946, serving in North Africa and Germany. He worked for Penna. Railroad in the car shops in Altoona, Douglas Aircraft in California and then moved back to Pennsylvania to farm for seven years. He was a member of the Gatesburg Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Gisela; two daughters, Judy (David) Smead, of Bellefonte and Rita Albright, of Altoona; one grandson; three granddaughters; and 10 great-grandchildren. There will be no visitation or viewing. Arrangements are under the direction of the Bruce E. Cox Funeral Home, Warriors Mark.
